It's the official CNBC premiere of DEAL or NO DEAL United States. It's been eight years. That's right. Eight years since the last DEAL US episode aired in syndication in the 2009-10 season; it was a different format unlike the nighttime version. That season, their tapings were in Stamford, Connecticut (the city where NBC Sports Group and World Wrestling Entertainment's headquarters are located).
In 2018, CNBC decided to revive the franchise, and I knew the tapings would be headed east. I wish that they would be in the Atlanta area; close, but no cigar. The tapings were held at Universal Studios Orlando. A slate of 30 episodes are ordered; two of which began Wednesday, December 5. I am waiting for an episode to air live, especially to Eastern and Central time zone viewers like myself.
So let's get right to the action. Unofficially this is the season five premiere, but to me, this is the kickoff of the sixth year (counting syndication) of DEAL US.
The models are in strapless off the shoulder, sleeveless black leather dresses.
Joe Verriato(?) is introduced. He is from the borough of Brooklyn. He had a vending business that was due to the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01. His daughter is getting married, and wants to get out of debt.
Due to various relevancy to Joe, Madi Teeuws brings the #15. I think the last time #15 in primetime was chosen, it revealed a dollar!
6 cases to open:
9: $1
3: $25
Joe does some dancing! We resume with 4:
17: $200 Joe strumming the air guitar!
7: $100
5: BANOODLES. Then some more dancing!
20: $5000
Now the bankress calls. First offer: $34,000. Not bad. Can he counter-offer? NO DEAL.
5 to open after the break...
Joe wants more. Pool, bar, palm trees, the works!
22: $25,000 Anchal wants to be invited to the pool party.
14: $500,000 OK.
6: $100,000
8: $750 and a sick celly from Neka!
19: $500 fakeout.
Joe dancing again! Disco night at the Deal! Bankress calls, Joe's backyard decorated with Cowboys and Patriots gear (he's a Giants and Steelers fan).
I like the new furniture for the support group. Like where do they get it? Conn's? Aarons? IKEA?
$49,000 offer, the roboto, and shuts the box down. 4 to open.
10: $200,000
12: Sarati is a professional dancer. Seriously. Shows some moves and $10,000 is out.
25: $10
One to open. Typical of the final season primetime version where in the middle of case selection, we go to a media time out. Typical Alan Carter move. Carter, a reality show episode director, directed the later season episodes and syndication episodes.
We resume play.
1: Soraya talks in a Brooklynite accent. $75.
More house music for Joe to dance with. I prefer trance or hardstyle. Darude 'Sandstorm.'
Bankress' new offer: $105,000! NO DEAL, with tons on the right side. 3 to open.
11: $1,000
21: $50 'Jackpot.' Dance music and Joe is dancing again!
Howie explains the board to Joe. Another typical Alan Carter move (though it's a different director here). Media time out. One to open.
4: $300,000
Bankress calls. $147,000, $42K higher than the last offer. Eight cases in play. Remaining: 2, 13, 16, 18, 23, 24, 26. Counter-offer? NO DEAL. Two to open. But wait, look out, it's his daughter! Turns around and Joe sees her!
We resume play.
18: "Keep dancing." $300!
16: $5! Joe is dancing!
Offer after the media time out! Cases remaining: 2, 13, 23, 24, 26. Here's the offer: $191,000. Joe saves the counter-offer, NO DEAL.
One to open: 13. $400. Times 1000. Expect the Bankress' offer to be lower, but it's higher: $232,000. NO DEAL. Who's left? 2, 23, 24, 26.
After the media time out, Joe has one to open.
24: $1,000,000. OMG.
$750,000 in play. Bankress' new offer: $183,000. Joe will counter to $240,000. Bankress says no deal, but why? One case to open.
23: $400. Here goes the music again. I expect him to cash out right away after this offer.
And the offer is...$285,000. Only 2 and 26 remain on the board with 3 cases in play. Joe pulls the Stan Stava and gets out of here.
Where was the $750,000? It was in #2. $75,000 in #15, and #26 had $50,000. Biggest winner so far after two episodes.
In review, I'm trying to get used to the new set. It's not like season 4 and syndication where you can actually see the banker's quarters.
Tomorrow, expect a review of the 2nd official episode, "Family Value$."
