If you knew anyone who used to work in the automobile industry, you can relate to this episode. My dad was an assembly worker at the former General Motors plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Chevy S-10 trucks among others were built. The plant closed in the late 2000s (or around the early part of this decade).
The models in this episode are in leather, off the shoulder, sleeveless dresses.
Five men nominated this contestant to play. They are all brothers, all raised by a single mother. Meet John West, a Detroit native, and a retired assembly worker at a Ford plant, where Mustangs were built. A man who supported five of his sons through the right path in their lives. If he won the million, he wants to give $200,000 each to his five sons, as well as a Mustang convertible.
For his selection, John picks #5. Lani brings such case. #5 hasn't been brought down in the night time version since, I don't know when. I have to do some research some time to find out. Let's get right to the action.
6 to open:
2: $50
7: $100,000
26: $750
11: $500,000
4: PENNY!
1: (barks) "Please squat again for me." $400,000
Reasonable first offer despite the big values. Bankress calls for the first offer of the night. First offer is $11,000. We all know what John will do. NO DEAL.
5 to open (after the media time out):
6: $1,000 (better than last time)
3: $75,000
14: $300,000
9: THE MILLION. Oh s**t.
15: $10,000
Rough second round. Bankress calls. The new offer is $8,000, slightly lower. Counter-offer this early? Yeah right. NO DEAL.
4 to open:
12: $300
8: $400
25: $200
10: $500
What a round! Bankress calls. What is the offer this time? It's higher. $42,000. $750,000 still in play.
John says NO DEAL.
3 to open (after the media time out):
20: $200,000
16: $1
17: $25
Reasonable round! Bankress calls again. His next offer is zero dollars! Plus a 2019 Ford Mustang worth $55,000! Will John counter-offer. No. NO DEAL.
The $750,000 is still in play. John's #5, plus 13, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 24 are all alive.
2 to open:
19: $100
13: (a mini-biographical summary of Mahogany Lox; DUH!) $25,000
Yet another reasonable round. Bankress calls. His highest offer yet of $86,000. That's enough for a new Mustang! Will he counter offer here? Nope. NO DEAL.
The $750,000 is still up there. John's #5, plus 18, 21, 22, 23 and 24 are all alive.
1 to open, before that a video message from Lions QB Matthew Stafford. I was hoping it would be the Red Wings' Dylan Larkin, but that's okay. The Lions offer a package including a gym bag, game day tickets and more. Joe Hinrichs, President of Global Operations for Ford, arrives on stage to give John a plaque of service with FoMoCo, and Bill Ford, Henry's grand son, wants to celebrate John's retirement in style with a luncheon at Ford's world headquarters. The Lions gym bags are also brought out by the models, led by Soraya. Despite a disappointing season by the Lions, it was great to see the club bring something out for a native Detroiter. Maybe the Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons should have done the same thing as well to give John the complete Detroit experience. After the break, we resume play.
18: $5,000!
Let's see what the Bankress thinks about this. She calls. The offer is up to $122,000. His highest of the game. He pulls the trigger, and says NO DEAL. John's #5, plus 21, 22, 23, and 24 are still up there. One of those cases have $750,000
1 to open:
21: $5!
Four cases in play: John's #5, 22, 23 and 24. Bankress calls. The offer is expected to be higher. And it is. $176,000. After the media time out and plenty of time to decipher, will he counter offer? He will use his counter offer for $200,000. Bankress calls again, and her verdict: DEAL!
Where was the $750,000? Was it in #22? Nope. $50,000. The bank offer would have been $300,000. Was it in #24? Nope. $75. Offer would have been the leader at the moment with $524,000. Two cases left; in Joe's #5 case was...$10. Anne Julia's #23 had the $750,000!
What a game! John had the fourth highest this season! Unfortunately, if it had a real Detroit feel, I could have seen more offers for John, such as a year supply of Faygo, unlimited $5 Hot-N-Ready pizzas from Little Caesars and probably an appearance by Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, the Insane Clown Posse, who could have offered him a trip to the 2019 Gathering of the Juggalos! How sweet would that be? As a fan of Psychopathic Records, I can go with that. But a great episode in what some call the best season to date and we have not seen a millionaire yet!

5.12 "My Big Fat Greek Game Show" Official Play-By-Play
Before starting to watch this episode, this feels like from what I read, something similar to a season two episode of DEAL US, where another contestant of Greek origin smashing porcelain plates as the main highlight of that episode. That and Patricia Kara having to pronounce the last name of that contestant, in which Howie couldn't pronounce.
That was early 2007. This is 2019. And how appropriate that Patricia is in this episode. Not just appropriate, but ironic as well.
The models come out in the very same blue, one shoulder dresses they wore in the previous episode! Meet George Stathoulis. See if Patricia will pronounce his last name correctly. George is a restaurateur, who operates a diner. He is also a newlywed. If he won a million, he would want seven children, all to help with his restaurant.
For his case George picks #7, and Jourdana de Paula's first selection. The first time #7 has been selected with a different model not named Sara Bronson (Doll), who was active in every episode in the nighttime version the first four seasons.
6 to open:
Before he chooses, George spits on his case, for good luck. Even Howie spits for good measure!
19: $500,000
21: $10,000
2: $200,000
16: $200 (one plate broken from the supporter's corner)
10: $750,000
14: $50,000
Very rough start. The million is still in play. How will the Bankress respond? She calls, and offers George $7,000 for his first offer. Of course, George says NO DEAL.
5 to open:
Before this, Jourdana brings out a case with the State Farm logo on it. In the State Farm case, is $25,000, in which it will be added to the offer. Regardless of monetary winnings. Another plate breaks.
4: $400
25: $500
20: $100
8: $300,000
11: $100,000
I don't know what to say regarding the second round. Bankress calls, George is directed to the Bankress where she holds a waste basket in her hand, and placed something in it. Boos ensue, even Anne-Julia couldn't believe it. The offer went up to $16,000. Remember the State Farm guarantee (State Farm sucks IMO). In George's supporter corner, is his wife, his father, and his mother. George's verdict: NO DEAL of course.
4 to open:
18: $5,000
(after the media time out, we resume play. AKA the Alan Carter Move)
1: (Soraya can speak Greek!) $25,000
17: $1
24: $750
Great round. What will the Bankress have in store for him? She calls. The new offer is $51,000. How high. $76,000 combined in winnings in conjunction with the State Farm offer. George knows how to hold them and fold them. NO DEAL.
3 to open:
26: $300
3: "...I really hope so." $5!
12: (spits on the case) $75,000
Reasonable round. Eight cases left in play. George's #7, plus 5, 6, 9, 13, 15, 22, and 23. Especially case #9. Bankress calls. New offer. $89,000, heaps higher than previous offer. $114,000 with the State Farm offer. George's mom is thinking counter-offer, but no way. George says NO DEAL.
2 to open:
5: PENNY!
(After the media time out, one to open)
22: $1000!
Let's see what the Bankress has in store. Bankress calls, expect higher offer this time. $120,000. Plus the State Farm offer would be $145,000. Does Patricia (#9) has the million on this Greek-themed episode? She is still up there, along with 6, 13, 15 and 23. Plus the #7 George has in play. George will continue. NO DEAL.
1 to open:
6: Here we go again. Don't ever pick that case to begin with. Based on history, here's a tip. Save it. A million.
This will hurt the offer. Bankress calls. The new offer is $53,000, that is over 50% off the previous offer. $78,000 in play with the State Farm offer, and yes he can counter-offer. After the media time out, George will counter offer for $75,000. Bankress calls again and her verdict is simple. NO DEAL.
1 to open:
13: (George goes up to open it) $400,000
The end. The Bankress calls, with an offer of $40. NO DEAL.
1 to open:
23: $50
Bankress calls again. $44 offer. NO DEAL.
Last case:
15: $10
Bankress calls for the last time. $60. NO DEAL.
He will find out what is in the #7 case, which holds $75. #9 had $25. Had to save Patricia until the final case. But anyway, George's total with the State Farm offer is $25,075. The second lowest total to date in the fifth primetime season of DEAL US. The biggest plus was Howie pronouncing George's last name right, without Patricia having to do so. Great work Howie. And yes, a lot different from that season two episode with another contestant of Greek origin smashing plates, spitting, and on and on.

5.11 "Small Town, Big Dreams" Official Play-By-Play
You have got to love small town people. They are the most happiest, the most opportunistic people out there. Many of the brightest people in politics, sport, entertainment, religion, science, business and other areas have come from smaller communities worldwide. So many success stories, but will this one be a success?
Before we begin, Howie is in the audience. Also the models are in one shoulder blue dresses. Haven't seen one shoulder dresses on DEAL US since season one.
Meet Bryce Gage, a high school choir director from the small Texas town of Marble Falls, a near two hour drive northwest of Austin. Bryce calls it the "greatest smallest town in the world" of a population of 7,000 people. He has basketball skills and has been a soloist at Carnegie Hall.
Based on daughters he has, Bryce chooses #2, Taylor brings such case. First time this season #2 has been picked.
6 to open:
8: $75,000
26: $75 "You're off to a great start."
14: $300,000
1: $25
22: $750
20: "I'm going to keep this good streak going." $200
Great start. Bankress calls. As expected, a good offer. $23,000. We all know what Bryce will do. But before that, a Bankress' stooge comes out with a note card. Bryce reads it. He read that there was an offer for a trip to London for his choir of 25 to perform in front of the queen. Transportation, lodging, meals included. But it's not that London, it is London, Arkansas. Holy s**t. After the bus ride, they'll be performing in front of the queen. Dairy Queen. A $7,000 offer. A grand total of $30,000. Bryce says, NO DEAL!
5 to open:
16: $100
17: $50,000
10: $5,000
23: $400
19: $300
EXCELLENT! An offer after the media time out. Bankress later calls, and expect the offer to go up. That's my board! $46,000 is that offer. It nearly doubled from previous offer, but it went up. In Bryce's supporter corner, is his wife, a friend who happens to be a high school basketball coach, and another friend who happened to be a mentor of his. Bryce says NO DEAL!
4 to open:
12: $200,000
18: $100,000
(After the media time out, two to open):
9: $5
21: $750,000 "Sorry, sorry, sorry."
Bankress calls after that. With $500,000 and $1,000,000 left, the offer went up to $68,000. His highest of the game. What does Bryce say? Of course, NO DEAL.
3 to open, before that, a satellite has hooked up to his school in Marble Falls, including his choir. A note card, from his town, is read by Bryce himself. It says that the city of Marble Falls has declared him "Mr. Marble Falls." A Bryce Gage Day, and evening with Bryce himself, and a burger named in his honor, with onions and mayonnaise. Where's the lettuce, cheese and tomato? Jalapeno?
6: THE MILLION. I knew it. Based on history.
11: $500
25: $400,000
Rough. Very rough. After the media time out, there will be an offer. Expect it to go down. Bryce's #2 case, plus 3, 4, 5, 7, 13, 15, 24 are still in play. Bankress calls. It's down to $20,000. That is less than a third off the previous offer. Bryce says NO DEAL.
2 to open:
24: "I believe in you Bryce. I believe in you." $10,000.
3: $10!
Expect a better offer. Bankress calls. Bryce's #2 case, plus 4, 5, 7, 13, 15 are all in play. The offer is $37,000, higher than previous offer. Bryce's decision? Maybe a counter-offer? $50,000 it is. Bankress calls again, and what is her decision? NO DEAL. In addition, a challenge from the banker. There are basketballs, a basketball goal, and the Magic's Jonathan Isaac making a cameo appearance (it should have been Nikola Vucevic). Isaac, 6th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, challenges him to a shooting contest in order for Bryce to upgrade to a home theater system of sorts in his living room of his house. After the media time out, it commences. Isaac made a basket, and so did Bryce, all in a 30 second shootout. Both men get a TV! If it was Vucevic, he would've beat Bryce!
One to open:
5: $50!
Great! What will the Bankress do for an offer? Expect it to be higher. The highest of the game, $69,000. What a number! Bryce is going to--with his case, and 4, 7, 13, 15 in play--cash out, with the third lowest offer to date.
Where was the $500,000? Was it in #4? No, it was $25,000. The offer would have been $125,000. Was it in #15? Nope, a penny. The offer would have been $200,000, his highest in the game. Was it in #13? Nope, a dollar. The offer would be higher at $349,000. With #2 and #7 remaining, inside Bryce's #2 was $500,000. #7 had the thousand. A bad deal, but cashed out at the right time.
Mr. Marble Falls he is. A new episode aired the following Wednesday on CNBC. I will review it once I see it.

5.10 "Flying High" Official Play-By-Play
The title of the episode 'Flying High' has nothing to do with flying a plane while high on something like crack cocaine or marijuana. This episode could have a high offer in store for one contestant.
The models are in red, off the shoulder, short sleeved dresses. Meet Shireen Mui, a poker player from Los Angeles. She is in aerospace sales, in which she sells parts and pieces for airplanes. She wants to use the money to fix her home and adopt a child. Let's go!
She chooses #20. It is the second time Amanza Smith's case has been picked. She has been picked only once, and that was (I believe) in the 200th episode, aired November 2008. The 'Speed Deal' episode.

23: $25,000
17: $400,000
9: $10

After the media time out...4 to open:
21: $500,000
3: $10,000
26: $1,000,000!!!!
16: $100
Rough third round. What will the Bankress do for an offer? It hit rock bottom. $2,000. Shireen's idol, Maria Ho, arrives with a case in hand. Ho opens the case, and it's chips and cards courtesy of the World Poker Tour (WPT). Ho mentioned that this offer is the complete home game, plus a game hosted by WPT pros, and the chance to commentate WPT TV event, plus a chance to get a seat to play in the Los Angeles WPT event. In addition, a one on one session with Ho herself. The total of the WPT offer is $12,000. Grand total is $14,000. Shireen says, NO DEAL!
After the media time out...3 to open:
5: $200
13: $5
1: $300
Better stuff here. $300,000 still in play. 6, 7, 10, 14, 18, 22, 24 and Shireen's cases are active. Bankress wants to speak to Shireen's husband, but he began to be cowardly as Howie comes over there. Something comes down from the rafters of the arena in which Shireen's husband plans to do it, which is an offer from the Bankress. After the media time out, Shireen's husband is in a vest, but not a straight jacket. Shireen's biggest offer is the biggest of the night: $30,000. She says NO DEAL.
Let's kick it up a notch. Eddie, Shireen's husband, is lifted up. He's not afraid of heights after all. I remember that this is NOT a DEAL US first. It's been done before. Believe me.
2 to open:
7: $75
22: $100,000.
6 cases in play: 6, 10, 14, 18, 24 and Shireen's case. Eddie is lowered down because he could puke. Great call. Bankress calls, the offer is lower than previous: $22,000. Shireen's decision? NO DEAL, of course.

4 cases in play: 10, 18, 24 and Shireen's case #20. Expect an higher offer, as the Bankress calls. The offer is now $63,000. Shireen is thinking counter offer here. She will counter for $85,000. Bankress calls again. She says NO DEAL.

3 cases in play: 10, 24 and Shireen's case #20. Expect an higher offer as the Bankress calls. The offer is now $105,000, just $2,000 off the Stan Stava Line. Will Shireen take it? Her husband wants her to do it. She will.
But where was the $300,000? Was it in #10? It was. #20 had the penny, while #24 had $5,000. Great way to leave the game in style. This was from January 9. A new episode followed the following Wednesday on CNBC. I'll review it once I see it.

5.9 "Ice Cream Dreams" Official Play-by-Play
The ice cream industry is never a cut-throat industry. There are so many brands of ice cream out there. From Wells' Blue Bunny to Blue Bell to Breyers and Ben and Jerry's just to name a few. But for Ally Teixeira, she wants to change the face of the ice cream industry forever by trying to win a million dollars.
The models for this episode are in red. Red represents strawberry and cherry, which are common ice cream toppings. Get it? Ally is in pistachio or lime green.
Ally is a southern California native who lives with her husband and wants to start a dairy free ice cream business. Dairy free ice cream? What the f***? You need milk to make ice cream. That's one thing. The other thing: Ally wants to be the next Cold Stone Creamery success, just ask Doug Ducey, who is the current governor of Arizona. Ducey is the founder of the Cold Stone Creamery chain, based in Phoenix (I think), and has hundreds of stores nationwide.
For her case, Ally picks #3. Katie Luddy brings such case.
6 to open.
(Ally refers to a message on a fortune cookie, which has six numbers as usual):
5: $25,000
11: $400
22: $100,000
24: $400,000
25: $300,000
8: $5
Very rough first round. Bankress calls. Her first offer is $9,000. The lowest first offer this season. Of course she knows what she's doing. NO DEAL.
5 to open. Before that, Ally brought some of her chocolate ice cream, gluten free, tailored for Howie, who puts a spoon of it in his mouth. A dark chocolate truffle flavor. Howie can't resist, and continues eating.
14: $25
19: $1,000
6: $50,000
10: $200 "You need not worry."
18: PENNY!
Bankress calls, while Howie still is eating. Howie puts down the bowl, answers the phone. The new offer is $47,000. Over five times from previous offer. In her supporter counter, is Ally's husband, a friend who happens to be a stay-at-home mom, and her business partner. She says NO DEAL.
4 to open after the media time out:
26: $50
21: $500
13: The million.
1: $1
A new offer after the media time out. $750,000 is still in play as is the $500,000. Bankress calls, Ally's new offer is higher despite losing the million. It's $55,000, and still climbing. Ally's response, is NO DEAL.
3 to open, before that, Ally's dog is brought out by Katie Luddy as a good luck charm. Nice dog. It's nice to see animals on the set of DEAL US; it has been done before.
2: Taylor loves anything sweet. $300
15: $750,000. Oh man.
17: $100
Can't wait for the offer. $500,000 still in play. 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 20, 23 and Ally's case are still alive. Bankress calls. Offer goes down, and after the break, it's $30,000. Ally says NO DEAL.

1 to open:
23: Anne loves ice cream. Even Magnum bars. $10. Ally guessed it and she was right!
Five cases in play. 4, 7, 9, 16 and Ally's case. Bankress calls, and its a BIG offer of $108,000, her highest yet! The Bankress also added a consultant: Ben van Leeuwen, who is the founder of an artisan ice cream chain of 12 stores. Van Leeuwen tried the ice cream, and loved it. Van Leeuwen wants to mentor her, and the mentoring session would cost $15,000. Added to the original monetary offer, for a grand total of $123,000. After the media time out, will she commit to the mentoring offer from Mr. van Leeuwen? Of course. DEAL.
Where was the $500,000? Was it in #7? It was. The offer would have been $70,000. #16 had $200,000. In Ally's case was $5,000. Great deal. #9 had $750, while #4 had $75,000.
Ally got out of there in time. A new episode aired the following week on CNBC, and I'll break it down once I watch it.
